Welcome to the First Year Writing wiki

This wiki was created to support teachers of English 802, Analytical Reading and Writing, at Temple. It includes lots of resources for teaching from Cultural Conversations. Additional resources are available on the program website (see especially the First Year Writing Teacher's Handbook) and the Blackboard site. This wiki supports collaborative work, and is open to anybody, including teachers who do not yet have Temple accounts; most of its resources will eventually migrate to the Blackboard page.
Here's how it's structured:
The Wiki is a series of "pages," each of which contains many links, resources, and comments. You can navigate to the pages either throught the "pages" tab at the top of the page or the list on the sidebar to the right of this page
The Syllabus page offers a link to the standard syllabus, which is required for everybody who is teaching English 802 for the first time. Additional syllabus materials can be found in the chapter pages.
There is also a page for each chapter in Cultural Conversations. These pages include suggested readings, links to other resources, discussion questions, assignments, and sample student papers.
Here's how to use the wiki:
If you're a new teacher, focus on the standard syllabus and the pages for Chapters 5 and 6--the chapters included in the standard syllabus. You must use the standard syllabus, but you should feel free to use the supplementary materials or not, as they seem useful to you. If you're a returning teacher, check out the standard syllabus, but also consider alternate chapters (and, for that matter, the alternate textbooks described in the Handbook).
If you want to comment on a resource, or to add a resource you've developed--thank you! This is a great idea! Follow the tab to request access, and you'll be set up to write in the wiki. You can add a file, or just click on "edit" and add a comment to the page.
